Society of Physics Students’ Pumpkin Chunkin Trebuchet

During my sophomore year at Hamilton as the vice president of SPS club I spearheaded the design and construction of a pumpkin launching trebuchet. It was truly one of my favorite projects where I learned about:

  • the design process and CAD using Fusion 360

  • leading a large scale project, dealing with deadlines and compromise

  • working in a wood and metal workshop under the guidance of two wonderful prototype engineers

  • how to work with and design for a multi-axis Tormach CNC machine

Scroll to see some of the images along the way. In the end we were able to launch a watermelon over 50 ft! At the bottom you can download and see some of the design drawings I made in Fusion 360.

Custom launch angle controller I designed in Fusion 360 and then with the help of the engineers manufactured
